OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech men's soccer team secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Trent Excalibur on Sunday afternoon at Vaso's Field.
Kairo Coore (Whitby, Ont.) netted the game-winning goal for the Ridgebacks in the first half, converting a penalty kick to help Ontario Tech improve to 4-3-1 on the season.
The decisive moment came in the 37th minute when Coore calmly slotted home from the penalty spot after Trent conceded a foul inside the box.
Ontario Tech controlled the match with 13 shots, including five on target, while holding Trent to four shots. Jack Sears led the Ridgebacks in attacking pressure, tallying six shots, while Coore added three attempts.
Trent's goalkeeper Owen Schultz made four saves to keep the Excalibur within reach, but their offense struggled to break down Ontario Tech's disciplined defense.
With the win, Ontario Tech improves to 4-3-1 in the OUA standings, while Trent drops to 1-7-0. The Ridgebacks will look to continue their momentum next Saturday, October 4, when they host the Toronto Varsity Blues at Vaso's Field.
