OSHAWA, Ont. — The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks men's soccer team secured a 2-1 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues at Vaso's Field on Saturday afternoon.
Kairo Coore (Whitby, Ont.) led the Ridgebacks with a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the 59th minute. Coore opened the scoring early in the first half with a penalty kick in the 7th minute. Toronto's Oliver Barta responded in the 24th minute, converting a pass from Jacob Prested to level the match at 1-1.
Despite Toronto controlling much of the possession and outshooting Ontario Tech 13-7, the Ridgebacks were able to capitalize on their chances. Coore's second goal, assisted by Jack Sears, gave the Ridgebacks the lead for good.
Goalkeeper Kevon Grant made seven saves, including several critical stops in the second half, to preserve the win.
Prior to the game the Ridgebacks honoured their graduating seniors including Sears, Grant, Luciano Nania and Owen Edwards.
The Ridgebacks will finish their season on the road with a match up with the TMU Bold up next on Wednesday, October 9.
