Ridgebacks lose battle with Carleton

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ridgebacks men's basketball team fell to the Carleton Ravens 84-66 in an emotionally charged matchup on Friday night.

The Ravens took the game to the Ridgebacks early, scoring nine points in the opening minutes. The Ridgebacks would respond with tough defence and claw their way back into the game, eventually tying it 24-24 heading into the second quarter before the Ravens held the Ridgebacks to 11 points. Aubrey Dorey-Haven came off the bench for the Ravens and led all scorers with 24 points, and Augustas Brazdeikis had an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double.

Zubair Seyed (Cambridge, Ont.) led the Ridgebacks in scoring with 22 points, three rebounds, and three assists, and Keon Baker (Pickering, Ont.) had 17 points to go with six steals and six rebounds.

In the second half, tempers began to flare between the two teams as they traded buckets in the third quarter, but Carleton would eventually take control of the lead and get a measure of revenge on the Ridgebacks, who beat them in Ottawa 85-69 to start the new year.

The Ridgebacks will play their final remaining regular season home game tomorrow when they take on the visiting Ottawa Gee-Gees at 6 p.m. before beginning to look toward the playoffs, where they will host their first playoff game in program history with a date and opponent to be determined.
