OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech women's hockey program started the new year with a 2-1 overtime win over the Brock Badgers on Friday night.
The win comes as the Ridgebacks hosted the first Hockey Gives Blood night, which saw both Ridgebacks hockey teams make blood and stem cell donations earlier in the week.
Lauren Beaulieu (Caistorville, Ont.) picked up the first goal of the evening, assisted by Katie Mikkelsen (Oshawa, Ont.) and Emily Davis-Tope (Bendigo, Australia) in the first period. The hard fought game remained tied for the next two periods before Brock's Rayna Franklin tied the game four minutes into in the third period.
In overtime, the Ridgebacks began to find more chances, and Harrie Jones (Ottawa, Ont.) finally found a way past Kenzie Harmison to secure the win for the Ridgebacks.
Zoe McGee got the start in net and stopped 30 of 31 shots on net.
Ontario Tech will be back in action tomorrow night when they take on the visiting Guelph Gryphons at 7 p.m.
