Redbirds win battle for third place, Ridgebacks to play Carleton in opening round

The Ontario Tech men's hockey team hosted the McGill Redbirds for their final game of the regular season on Saturday afternoon. In a back-and-forth contest, McGill defeated the Ridgebacks 4-3. 

After trailing 1-0 in the first, Baxter Anderson (Langley, B.C.) evened the score with under four minutes left. McGill added another one with just 35 seconds left in the period to go up 2-1.

The Redbirds took a 3-1 lead before Tyson McConnell (Pilot Mound, Man.) cut the deficit in half at the 18:02 mark. In the final 20 minutes, Stephen Calisti (Etobicoke, Ont.)  evened the score at three before McGill's Alexandre Gagnon scored the game-winning goal,  his third of the game, at the 17:06 mark.

Ridgebacks goalie Leif Hertz (Kingston, Ont.) finished with 31 saves in Saturday's loss. Playoff action for the Ridgebacks will begin next week against the Carleton Ravens.
