OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks women's hockey team hosted the York Lions on Thursday night at the Campus Ice Centre, where they prevailed in a tight knit contest with a score of 2-1.
After a slow start, the Ridgebacks allowed a goal early in the first period. Trailing by one, they began to find their legs as momentum started to turn. Some relentless pressure had the Lions on their heels as Harrie Jones (Ottawa, Ont.) skated coast-to-coast scoring a pretty goal over the left shoulder of the Lions goalie.
With the Ridgebacks controlling play heading into the third period all squared up, it was Kayla Welk (Barrie, Ont.) off a set face-off play that gave the Ridgebacks their first lead of the game. With the Lions in desperation mode, goaltender Zoe McGee (Kanata, Ont.) stood on her head maintaining the Ridgebacks lead, prevailing them to their second consecutive win.
You can catch the Ridgebacks women's hockey teams' next game Saturday Nov. 25, as they travel to Waterloo to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks at 3:30 p.m.
