OSHAWA, Ont. – Three members of the Ridgebacks women's soccer team were recognized for their efforts on and off the field by Ontario University Athletics (OUA) with awards on Wednesday afternoon.
Katrina Pappas (Toronto, Ont.) won the OUA East Community Service Award, marking the second time in school history a student-athlete from women's soccer has taken home this award. Pappas, a graduating senior, was not only a leader in the locker room, organizing events for her teammates, but a leader off the field as well as the president of the Ridgebacks Leadership Council. This isn't the first time that Pappas has been recognized for her work in the community, early this year she took home the Dr. Gary Polonsky Leadership Award and the Nustadia Recreation Award at the Ridgebacks awards gala.
Making the OUA East Second Team All-Stars were
Tara Sisic (Toronto, Ont.) and
Tia Schaffer (Saskatoon, Sask.). Both players were instrumental to the Ridgebacks turn around season that saw them with a record of 5-6-1 and in the playoffs for the first time since 2019. Sisic scored three goals on the season and was a key piece of progressing a much improved offence that was ranked sixth in the province. Schaffer started all 12 games for the Ridgebacks this season and was the veteran voice in the revamped back four for the Ridgebacks.
