NORTH BAY, Ont. – The Ontario Tech men's basketball team put up a valiant effort short-handed against Nipissing before eventually falling 104- 88 in North Bay.
With
Anthony Pate (Oakville, Ont.) out for the game, the Ridgebacks turned to
Ba-Amara Ajame (Montreal, Que.) to take the reins of the offence. Ajame delivered in a big way with 27 points, five rebounds, four assists and one highlight reel block and slam dunk.
Ontario Tech was able to hang with the Lakers offensively, but struggled to find answers for Nipissing's Muktar Mohamed, Nick Gehlen and Nathan Riley who each had more than 20 points.
Ammar Hassan (London, Ont.) had 22 points to go with six rebounds against his former team, and
Levi Ogbonna chipped in 14 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals.
The Ridgebacks will have a chance for revenge on Sunday when they face the Lakers again in their inaugural Shoot for Change game in Oshawa.
The game will feature a number of special events, including a 50/50 draw, Ridgebacks gear discounted for sale and opportunities to win prizes during both the women's and men's games at halftime. Shoot for Change t-shirts are also available to be ordered online or in-person at the game (while supplies last).
All proceeds from the game will be used to establish the
Black Athlete Association Bursary for Marginalized Groups (BAA).
Game times are set for 4 p.m. for the women's game and 6 p.m. for the men's game at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre. Tickets can be
purchased online or at the door. They are free for Ontario Tech students or staff and children under 14. Adult tickets are $10 with senior tickets priced at $5. All ticket proceeds that night will go towards the BAA Bursary.
