NORTH BAY, Ont. – In what was a much more defensive contest compared to their Friday night matchup, the Nipissing Lakers defeated the Ontario Tech men's hockey team 4-1 on Saturday afternoon. 
 
Nipissing forward Cole Stewart opened the scoring in the first period for the Lakers and Harrison Caines would double the Lakers lead halfway through the second. Nicolas Tardif (Chelsea, Que.) got the Ridgebacks on the board late in the second, but that would end up being Ontario Tech's only goal. Caines would also record an assist on the third Laker goal, courtesy of Parker Bowman. 
 
Ontario Tech pulled their goalie Leif Hertz (Kingston, Ont.) with just over 5 minutes left in the third period, but they were unable to mount a comeback as Gabe Lubwele gave Nipissing its fourth goal of the game. Lakers' goalie Michael Herringer recorded 26 saves on the afternoon. 
 
The Ridgebacks managed to kill off all six of Nipissing's powerplays and Hertz finished the afternoon with 24 saves. 
 
These two teams will meet again twice next week, this time each team will have a home game, with the first taking place in Oshawa next Thursday. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
