NORTH BAY, Ont. – In what was a thrilling night of hockey in North Bay, the Ontario Tech men's hockey team came up just short as they suffered a 3-2 loss to the Nipissing Lakers on Wednesday night.
After a scoreless first period, Matthew Baron (Yarmouth, N.S.) opened the scoring for the Ridgebacks before Lakers' forward Charles Farmer would tie the game at one heading into the third.
The Lakers tallied twice in the final 20 minutes courtesy of Jacob Hickey and Charles Farmer, who gave the Lakers the lead with his second goal of the night.
Andrew Suriyuth (Kingston, Ont.) cut the two-goal deficit in half with three minutes to go, but the Ridgebacks ran out of time.
Ontario Tech came up empty in all four of their power play attempts, while the Lakers scored once in three tries on the man advantage.
Leif Hertz (Kingston, Ont.) finished the night with 25 saves, while Nipissing goalie Michael Herringer stole the show as he stopped 38 of the 40 shots he faced.
The Ridgebacks will now travel to Kingston where they'll take on the RMC Paladins on Friday night. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
