Ridgebacks knock off No. 1 ranked Patriotes, splitting weekend at home

After a tough 6-2 loss on Friday against undefeated UQTR, the Ontario Tech men's hockey team bounced back on Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 victory over the No.1 ranked Patriotes.

Drew Toner (Grand Falls N.B.) opened the scoring for the Ridgebacks with just under three minutes left in the first period. Ontario Tech took that lead into the intermission.

The Patriotes scored the only goal of the second and the opening goal of the third period to take a 2-1 lead. Ontario Tech's came alive in the final frame.

Sean Ross (Bracebridge, Ont.), James White (Peterborough, Ont.) and Justin Svenson (Île-des-Chênes, Man.) put the Ridgebacks up 4-2. Ross added an empty net goal later in the period for his second of the game.
 
Ridgebacks' goalie William Desmarais (Sherbrooke, Que.) had an outstanding performance in net as he finished with 44 saves in his first OUA victory.

Ontario Tech's next game will be at home on Friday, Nov. 11, against the Carleton Ravens. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
