The Ontario Tech women's hockey team picked up their second straight road win of the season on Saturday as they defeated the Western Mustangs 2-1 in London, Ont.
Â
Mackenzie Krasowki (Kesweick, Ont.) scored the opening goal for the Ridgebacks at the five-minute mark of the first period. Julia Jackson (Uxbridge, Ont.) and Harrie Jones (Ottawa, Ont.) also picked up assets on the goal.
Â
Second-year forward Kayla Welk (Barrie, Ont.) doubled the Ridgebacks' lead on a second-period powerplay at the 17:45 mark. Nicole Escano (Kingston, Ont.) helped set up the game's second goal with a pass back to the point.
Â
Mustangs cut the lead to one halfway through the second period, thanks to Gabrielle Lehoux, but that's as close as Western would get. The Ridgebacks managed to kill all four Western powerplays in Saturday's contest.
Â
Ridgebacks' goalie Brooke Vial (Port Moody, B.C.) had an outstanding outing in Saturday afternoon's win. She finished the game with 35 saves.
Â
Ontario Tech's next game will be Friday, Oct. 28, in Oshawa for their home opener against the Brock Badgers. Puck drop is set for 7 pm.
