The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks men's hockey team opened their 2022-23 OUA season with a 5-1 victory on the road against the Ottawa Gee-Gees.

Nicolas Tardif (Chelsea, Que.) scored the opening goal of the regular season halfway through the first period. Andrew Siriyuth (Kingston, Ont.) gave the Ridgebacks a 2-0 lead just 24 seconds later.

In the second, Mathieu Desgagnes put the Gee-Gees on the board, but Ridgebacks defenceman Nolan Ford (Sault Ste. Marie) scored his first OUA goal to restore Ontario Tech's two-goal lead.

The Ridgebacks added two more goals in the third from Cullen McLean (Whitby, Ont.) and James White (Peterborough, Ont.).

Ontario Tech goaltender Leif Hertz (Kingston, Ont.) finished with 25 saves in Thursday's win.

The Ridgebacks will look to continue their strong start as they stay in Ottawa to take on the Carleton Ravens on Friday, Oct. 14. Puck drop is set for 7 pm.
