OSHAWA, Ont. - The Ontario Tech men's hockey team split their opening weekend at home against the Nipissing Lakers, falling 2-1 in a shootout loss after their lopsided 6-1 win to open the season.Â

Pierre Luc Lurette (Val-d'Armour, N.B.) opened the scoring for the Ridgebacks 12 minutes into the second period with assists fromÂ

Nipissing took their place on the scoreboard four minutes into the third period. Parker Bowman was able to score with assists from Jacob Hickey and Devyn Mayea.

The game went into a sudden death overtime. After seven minutes without a goal, a shootout was needed, with Ben Garagan leading his team to victory

Leif Hertz (Kingston, Ont.) saved 28 shots on goal for the Ridgebacks, while Brett Epp was able to save 47 for the Lakers.

The Ridgebacks next take on the RMC Paladins on November 12 on the road. Â
