OSHAWA, Ont. – The No. 3 ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees continued their strong start this season as they topped the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks 5-1 in the first of two meetings this year.
Nibo Dlamini opened the scoring for Ottawa in the 15
th minute, which stood as the only goal going into halftime. The Gee-Gees were outshooting the Ridgebacks 13-3 at the break.
Melanie Hoekstra's (Bowmanville, Ont.) goal off a corner kick in the 49
th minute tied the game 1-1, but Ottawa took the lead back with goals by Trinity Esprit and Hailey Welsh in the 53
rd and 68
th minutes.
Emma Lefebvre and Soumaya Bouak rounded out the Gee-Gees scoring in the 69
th and 81
st minutes.
Alicia Chisholm (Woodbridge, Ont.) made a career-high 14 saves in the match for Ontario Tech, while Cassidy Joslin made one save in the victory for Ottawa in 77 minutes played. Mariah Harper finished the final 13 minutes of the match in goal for the Gee-Gees.
