OSHAWA, Ont. - The Ontario Tech University women's soccer team claimed the annual Campus Cup with a 3-1 win over the Durham Lords on Tuesday night.
The first goal of the game came in the 16th minute from Christina Coroado (Bolton, Ont.) after a dominant start from the Ridgebacks.
It didn't take long for Ontario Tech to get a quick second goal when Lauren Rea's (Burnaby, B.C.) effort from around 40 yards out found the top corner to give the Ridgebacks a comfortable two-goal lead.
Heading into halftime Ontario Tech were dominant with five shots to Durham's zero.
The Lords came out strong in the second half and were pressing the Ridgebacks' defence well as they searched for a way back into the game.
Durham's persistence in the second half paid off late in the game when forward Natassha Hassenstein poked the ball home from close range in the dying moments to get a consolation goal for the Lords.
The 3-1 win was Ontario Tech's seventh straight Campus Cup win since Durham won in 2012.
In the men's match the two teams ended in a 0-0 draw. The game was called at halftime due to lightning.
Ontario Tech returns to OUA conference action this weekend when they hit the road to face the Nipissing Lakers and Laurentian Voyageurs.
