WATERLOO, Ont. – In a back-and-forth game, the Ontario Tech University women's lacrosse program had the last laugh on Saturday as they topped the McMaster Marauders 10-9.
Down 5-4 at halftime and 7-6 after three quarters, the Ridgebacks dug deep and pulled off the come-from-behind victory with four fourth-quarter goals.
Ontario Tech tied it 7-7 in the opening minute of the final quarter, but Mac responded to go ahead 8-7. The Ridgebacks had
Nicole Martindale (Brooklin, Ont.) score two of her three fourth-quarter goals to put Ontario Tech up 9-8 before the Marauders' Sophie Skillen evened the game with four minutes remaining.
The game-winning goal from Martindale came with 2:58 on the clock as the Ridgebacks held on for their fourth victory of the season.
Martindale had six goals in the game to lead the Ridgebacks offence.
Caitlyn Cote (Oshawa, Ont.) scored twice, while
Ayden Briggs (Oshawa,Ont.) and
Amanda Di Mascio (Georgetown, Ont.) scored a goal apiece.
Ontario Tech athlete of the week Lauren Young (Fergus, Ont.) made five saves in the victory.
Tomorrow the Ridgebacks continue their road trip to Waterloo with games against the Laurier Golden Hawks and Western Mustangs.
