OSHAWA, Ont. – Lauren Young (Fergus, Ont.) of the women's lacrosse team and
Christopher Campoli (Woodbridge, Ont.) of the men's soccer team have been named the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks student-athletes of the week for the period ending September 15.
Young, a commerce major, was a key piece the Ridgebacks having a successful weekend of lacrosse at home. In the program's opening game of the day she earned a shutout in the 23-0 victory over the York Lions. She followed that with an eight-save performance against the defending OUA champion Queen's Gaels in a 12-10 loss. The weekend split has Ontario Tech 3-1 this season.
Campoli, a first-year finance major, scored twice in Ontario Tech's draw against the nationally ranked Ryerson Rams on Sunday. His opening goal tied the match 1-1 in the 34
th minute, with his 87
th minute goal being the equalizer in the 3-3 final. Campoli was also a key piece in the midfield on Friday night against the No. 7 ranked Toronto Varsity Blues, which was also a draw.
Friday afternoon the Ridgebacks men's soccer program is in action against the Ryerson Rams, with kick off slated for 1 p.m. at Vaso's Field.
The lacrosse program hits the road for three games next weekend in Waterloo against McMaster, Western and Laurier.
The Ontario Tech student-athlete of the week award is presented by Subway located at 2069 Simcoe Street North in Oshawa.
