Ford scores her first career goal in a shootout loss

WATERLOO, Ont. – Ridgeback defender Kassidy Ford (Gananoque, Ont.) scored her first career OUA goal but it wasn't enough to lift the UOIT women's hockey team to victory as they fell 3-2 to the Laurier Golden Hawks in a shootout on Friday night.

Ford, who is in her second year of the Kinesiology program, gave the Ridgebacks a 2-1 lead with four minutes left in the first period with Sarah Biesenthal (Chepstow, Ont.) earning an assist.

The lead would not hold as Laurier's Annalyssia Price tied things up, also recording her first career OUA goal midway through the second period.

That is all of the scoring that would take place as the game went to a shootout. Goaltender Hannah Miller stopped all three Ridgeback shooters while Danielle Wark scored on the Golden Hawk's first attempt to give the home side just their fourth win of the year.

Tailor Campbell (Palmerston, Ont.) notched UOIT's opening goal in the game, her first of the year. Mia Rogers (Keswick, Ont.) picked up an assist.

Briar Hughes (Thornton, Ont.) made 33 saves in the loss, as she now sports a 1.75 goals against average and .934 save percentage.

The teams split the season series as UOIT shutout Laurier 4-0 last weekend in Oshawa.

UOIT has officially been eliminated from playoff contention with their last playoff appearance coming in 2014. The team will wrap up their regular season on Thursday, Feb. 15 in Toronto against the Ryerson Rams.
