TORONTO – In her final game as a Ridgeback, UOIT captain
Mikaeli Cavell (Edmonton, Alta.) reached another milestone as she recorded her 60
th career point.
Never missing a conference game, Cavell wraps up her career with 120 games played where she scored 18 goals and 42 assists, finishing fourth all-time in career points and third in assists.
Her assist on Thursday opened up scoring for UOIT as
Chelsea Ball (Maple, Ont.) recorded her career-high ninth goal of the season.
Kassidy Nauboris (Brampton, Ont.) added an assist.
The trio finish 1-2-3 in team scoring with Nauboris leading the way for the second straight year with 17 points (6 G, 11 A), Ball with 15 points (9 G, 6 A) and Cavell with nine points (2 G, 7 A). Six of Ball's nine goals came in the new year.
The Rams managed to rebound after allowing the opening goal as they got the next three, with two coming from Lauren Nicholson and one by Sarah McGilvray.
UOIT would cut the lead to one in the third period when
Jamie Bulleid (Waterdown, Ont.) notched her third of the year, with the assist coming from
Alex Frigon (Bedford, N.S.).
Despite chances down the stretch, a win would not be in the cards for UOIT as Nicholson completed the hat-trick and Emma Low-A-Chee added an unassisted goal late in the game.
Celine Tessier (Chapleau, Ont.) made 22 saves in the loss while Fanny Vigeant made 17 saves in just her second game of the year.
The Ridgebacks posted an 8-13-3 record, missing out on the playoffs for the fourth straight year.
UOIT will now focus on building for next year during the offseason with hopes of returning to the playoffs in 2019.
