SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – The UOIT curling teams remain in the hunt heading into day three of the OUA championship hosted by Algoma University in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
The women's team sits in a four-way tie for third place in the pool A standings with a 2-2 record after splitting action on Friday. The Ridgebacks opened the day with a tough 9-3 loss to the Queen's Gaels but bounced back with a 5-4 extra end win over the Ryerson Rams.
Trailing 4-3 to Ryerson, the Ridgebacks stole points in the eighth and ninth ends to pick up the comeback win. UOIT is tied with Lakehead, Laurier and Ryerson heading into the final three matches of the round robin.
After going undefeated on day one, the men's team struggled on Friday suffering a 9-4 loss to the Laurentian Voyageurs and a 4-3 loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues.
With a 1-2 record, UOIT still has a chance to qualify for the quarter-finals as the second and third place teams have a 2-1 and 2-2 record.
Draw nine continues on Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
