WINDSOR, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team suffered a 3-2 loss to Windsor on Friday night, as the Lancers picked up their first win of the season. A silver lining for the Ridgebacks is that the loss came in a shootout, giving them a point in the standings.
UOIT is 4-3-1 on the year and sits in sixth place in the conference standings. They will match up against Western (4-1-1) on Saturday night as they wrap up their southwestern Ontraio road trip.
The Ridgebacks let two leads slip away in the loss. Freshman
Jamie Bulleid (Waterdown, Ont.) opened up scoring in the second period with her second of the year, with
Sophia Christopherson (Langley, B.C.) adding an assist, her first point as a Ridgeback. Windsor's Reagan Kaufman would counter with a power play goal.
Kassidy Nauboris (Brampton, Ont.) would regain the UOIT lead 6:45 into the third period, with linemate
Chelsea Ball (Maple, Ont.) recording an assist. Windsor would once again bounce back with another power play goal, this time off the stick of Taylor Conte.
Overtime would solve nothing as goaltenders
Celine Tessier (Chapleau, Que.) and Molly Jenkins shut the door.
In the shootout, it wasn't until Emily Bowman came out in the fourth round to score the lone goal to win the game for Windsor.
Jenkins would end up making 28 saves for her first win of the season. Tessier made 34 saves in the loss, as she sits fourth in the OUA with a .958 save percentage.
Shootouts have not been kind to UOIT over the last two years as they have lost five of six games that have gone the distance.
