KINGSTON, Ont. – The no. 8 ranked Queen's Gaels had four different goal scorers in a 4-1 victory over the UOIT Ridgebacks in OUA men's hockey action at the Kingston Memorial Centre Friday night.
Queen's (14-4-1) has won four straight games and sits alone in first place in the OUA eastern conference, one point ahead of the McGill Redmen (13-3-2). UOIT (12-6-1) slips into a tie for fourth place with UQTR (12-5-1), one point behind the Concordia Stingers (13-5-0).
Malik Johnson (Montreal, Que.) scored UOIT's lone goal, as he was set-up by third-year winger
Connor Jarvis (Port Union, Ont.) with five minutes to go in the third period. Jarvis has ten goals and four assists this season for a career-high 14 points.
Former Oshawa General Kevin Bailie was nearly perfect in goal for Queen's, making 23 saves, including 10 in the third period for his seventh win of the season.
Ryan Bloom gave Queen's a 1-0 lead with three seconds remaining in the opening frame. With the Gaels on a power play, Bloom's shot trickled through
Brendan O'Neill's (Ilderton, Ont.) five-hole to give him seven goals this season.
The Gaels would double their lead in the second period with another power play marker as Warren Steele one-timed a pass from Slater Doggett, who ended up with three assists on the night.
Two minutes into the third period, Spencer Abraham put the Gaels in front 3-0 with his third of the year.
Johnson finally got UOIT on the board at 15:17 of the third, but Harrison Hendrix sealed the win with a shorthanded empty-net goal at 19:33.
O'Neill made 28 saves in the losing effort.
UOIT's power play was shutout going 0-for-3 while Queen's scored on both of their power play attempts.
The Ridgebacks will look to stay in front of the Carleton Ravens (11-7-1) as they square off in Ottawa on Saturday night at 7 p.m. UOIT is two points ahead of Carleton as the teams enter a home-and-home series.
