OSHAWA, Ont. – Since Durham College won the first women's soccer Campus Cup the UOIT Ridgebacks have retained the title.
The Ridgebacks were dominant this year as they earned a 7-0 victory over their cross-campus rivals.
Cassandra Sribny (Pickering, Ont.) led UOIT with a pair of goals.
Alyssia Robichaud (Toronto, Ont.),
Sierra Simpson (Brooklin, Ont.),
Bria Dowson-Chance (Ajax, Ont.),
Sara Voisin (Waterloo, Ont.) and
Helen Frampton (Toronto, Ont.) each added a goal to round out the Ridgebacks scoring.
In goal
Victoria Savage (Woodbridge, Ont.) earned the clean sheet.
"Every year this is one of the marquee events to showcase our varsity soccer teams during orientation week and even with the rain today I believe our students thoroughly enjoyed themselves," said UOIT manager of intercollegiate athletics
Scott Barker. "It was unfortunate we had lightning cancel the men's game, but it was great to see the Ridgebacks hoist the cup at the end of the women's match again this year."
With the men's teams in the middle of warmups their annual match was called due to lightning. There is no make-up date scheduled at this time.
The UOIT women will now return to OUA action on Saturday at home against the Queen's Gaels. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
