NORTH BAY, Ont. – UOIT's goal in their 1-0 victory over the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday came from an unlikely source.
In the 17th minute,
Davon Greaves (Ajax, Ont.) found himself in unfamiliar territory as he was in the six-yard box. The 6'5 defender was able to get his foot on a loose ball and beat goalkeeper Grainger Munro for his first career goal.
Greaves goal comes only in his fifth game since coming back from a broken leg that he suffered in the first exhibition game of the 2015 season.
Making his return in goal,
Nicholas Miller of Oshawa made five saves in his first OUA win and shutout.
The Ridgebacks (2-3-1) have now won two straight games and sit in sixth place in the OUA eastern conference standings, three points ahead of the Trent Excalibur (1-5-1).
UOIT will have a chance to leapfrog Laurentian (3-3-0) for fifth place as the teams will meet on Sunday in Sudbury. Laurentian defeated Trent 6-2 on Saturday.
Next weekend the Ridgebacks return home to take on the Excalibur on Saturday. Kickoff at the Civic is 1 p.m.
