OTTAWA – Rhiannon Kissel (Peterborough, Ont.) scored the first two goals of her OUA career on Sunday afternoon as the UOIT women's soccer team battled to a 2-2 draw against the Carleton Ravens.
With ten minutes remaining in the game and the Ridgebacks trailing 2-1, UOIT advanced the ball quickly up field as
Rachel Matthews' (Ajax, Ont.) free kick was headed perfectly into the offensive zone by
Taijah Henderson (Ajax, Ont.). In a footrace with a trio of Carleton defenders, Kissel broke loose and kicked the ball by Carleton's goalkeeper Rada Mintchev to level the score
.
The game-tying goal came only one minute after former Ridgeback Emily Copeland-Dinan got the go-ahead goal for the Ravens as she crashed the crease and beat
Helen Frampton (Toronto, Ont.). Copeland-Dinan also got an assist on Carleton's first goal late in the opening half.
Kissel did not get any style points on her first career OUA goal that came just six minutes in the second half. As Mintchev picked up a loose ball, a Ravens defender bumped into her causing her to drop it. Kissel ended up being in the right place at the right time as she buried the ball into the open net.
Shots would end up 10-9 in favour of the Ridgebacks. Frampton made two saves on four shots on target while Mintchev had three stops for Carleton.
UOIT wraps up the weekend with an 0-1-1 record that started up with a 3-1 loss to the Ottawa Gee-Gees in Oshawa. Carleton beat Trent 2-1 on Friday night.
The Ridgebacks will look for their first win of the regular season over Labour Day weekend when they play back-to-back games in Toronto. On Saturday the Ridgebacks will take on the Ryerson Rams (1 p.m.) followed by a match against the Toronto Varsity Blues (1 p.m.) on Sunday.
