ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – With their OUA conference home opener only a week away, the UOIT Ridgebacks women's soccer team wants to make the most of their pair of preseason games this week.
UOIT opened up action with a 1-0 win over the Brock Badgers in St. Catharines as
Cassandra Sribny (Pickering, Ont.) scored the lone goal at the 25-minute mark.
The Ridgeback defensive unit picked up right where they left off last season as they limited the Badgers scoring opportunities while goalkeepers
Helen Frampton (Toronto, Ont.) and
Victoria Savage (Woodbridge, Ont.) earned the clean sheet. Last year, the Ridgebacks allowed a conference low seven goals against in 16 games.
UOIT will close out preseason action on Saturday afternoon against the Guelph Gryphons at Alumni Stadium in Guelph. The Gryphons defeated Laurentian 3-1 on Thursday afternoon in their opening exhibition game.
UOIT will begin conference play on Friday, Aug. 27 at home against the Ottawa Gee-Gees. Ottawa finished atop of the OUA eastern conference standings with a 13-0-3 record and ended up winning a bronze medal at the OUA championship.
