OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT men's soccer team looked poised to earn a 2-1 win at home on Saturday, but the Nipissing Lakers ruined that late in the match as they knotted the game 2-2 in the 89
th minute.
With the tie the Ridgebacks are now four points back of Queen's for fifth in the OUA east conference and five back of Laurentian, who they play Sunday at home, for fourth place.
On Saturday the Lakers first goal of the game came in the eighth minute off a penalty kick by Andrija Bago, much to the displeasure of the home fans.
UOIT didn't let it get to them as they worked to earn the momentum back and after a foul by Nipissing in the 41
st minute,
Sadra Entesari (Richmond Hill, Ont.) put a free kick in the top-left corner past Grainger Munro to tie the game 1-1 heading into halftime.
In the 74
th minute
Lee-Victor Massunda (Mississauga, Ont.) beat the Nipissing defender down the right side of the field to walk in and tap the ball to Munro's right and put the Ridgebacks up 2-1.
With the Ridgebacks working on shutting down the game, a goal in the final seconds before extra time by Ryan Roy had the Lakers bench and fans erupt in celebration as the team tied the match 2-2.
Nicholas Miller (Oshawa, Ont.) made four saves in the draw for the Ridgebacks, while Grainger mad three for Nipissing.
Now the Ridgebacks will look to close the gap on Laurentian as they host the Voyageurs at 2:15 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at Vaso's Field.
