OSHAWA, Ont. – Coming off a huge 6-0 win on Saturday, the UOIT women's soccer team were unable to find the back of the net Sunday at home against Laurentian in their 2-0 loss.
Voyageur forward Sam Selkirk opened the scoring in the 25
th minute, finishing the pass from Amanda Kwan.
Two quality chances were turned aside in the first half by Laurentian keeper Richele Greenwood, with multiple shots flying just over the crossbar. By halftime the Ridgebacks were unable to find the back of the net and continued to trail 1-0.
Greenwood was kept busy in the second half as UOIT increased their pressure, putting six shots on goal, but in the 84
th minute the Voyageurs' Sarah Sanford scored on one of her teams two shots on goal in the second half.
The Ridgebacks were also in tough as starters
Sara Voisin and
Mikaela Tierney left the game in the 78
th minute after colliding in the UOIT 18-yard box, just prior to the Voyageurs goal.
UOIT is now 1-1-0 on the season and will have the next two weeks off from OUA regular season play as their next conference game isn't until Sept. 12 in Ottawa against Carleton.
However, on Sept. 9 they will have their annual friendly against the Durham Lords, the Campus Cup, with the women's match scheduled for 7 p.m.
