OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team lost their third straight game Saturday afternoon as the Queen's Gaels moved into first place after earning a 5-1 victory at the Campus Ice Centre.
Queen's got out to an early lead as Michele Knecht scored 2:40 into the first period, with Katrina Manoukarakis making it 2-0 just three minutes later. The Gaels led the Ridgebacks 2-0 heading into the second.
Nadia Larocca scored midway through the second period to increase the lead to 3-0, which is where the game stayed trough two periods.
In the third Manoukarakis scored her second of the night on the power play at the 5:51 mark to put Queen's ahead 4-0.
With 7:39 remaining in the game UOIT's
Gabriella Lamanna (Pickering, Ont.) scored her first OUA goal to cut the lead to three, but the Ridgebacks' offensive push was too late as Queen's added one more off the stick of Kyla Crouse to pick up the 5-1 win.
Caitlyn Lahonen made 21 saves for Queen's, while
Tori Campbell (Palmerston, Ont.) made 36 in the loss for UOIT.
This was the lone game of the week for the Ridgebacks, who next host the defending CIS champion Western Mustangs on Friday night at the Campus Ice Centre. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m.
