OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team could not break out of their slump on Friday at home as the defending CIS champion Western Mustangs rolled to a 6-2 victory.
One bright note for UOIT was that they scored on the power play for the first time this season, having gone 0-for-81 heading into tonight's game.
Tailor Campbell (Palmerston, Ont.) scored on the Ridgebacks first power play attempt in the first period, marking her first career OUA goal. Trailing 6-1 late in the game,
Kassidy Nauboris (Brampton, Ont.) would score the Ridgebacks second power play goal of the night.
Holding a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes, Western broke things wide open in the second period with three straight goals. Kendra Broad would finish the night with two goals and an assist while teammate Brittany Clapham had one goal and two assists.
Shots on goal finished 35-27 in favour of Western.
The teams are heading in opposite directions as UOIT has dropped four straight games while the Mustangs have won four in a row.
UOIT will look to get their season back on track on Saturday night as they take on the Windsor Lancers. Windsor has struggled as they have only recorded one overtime victory in 2015.
