WATERLOO, Ont. – UOIT will be the first to congratulate Rebecca Bouwhuis when she graduates at the end of the season.
In five years playing against the Ridgebacks including a 3-1 win on Sunday, the fifth year goaltender has posted a record of 8-0-0 with a 1.00 goals against average.
Despite the Ridgebacks earning their first win in program history against Waterloo during their inaugural season, the Warriors have simply dominated the head-to-head match-up. You have to go back to Nov. 20, 2010 to find UOIT's last win over Waterloo.
The teams were level after 40 minutes in Sunday's contest, as
Nicole LoPresti (Hamilton, Ont.) tied things up at 1-1 with her first goal of the season coming in the second period.
Mikaeli Cavell (Edmonton, Alta.) drew an assist on the play.
In the final period, Waterloo came out flying scoring back-to-back goals less than two minutes apart to take a 3-1 lead. Maryn Caragata and Rachel Marriott were the goal scorers, each being their first of the year.
UOIT would record nine shots over the last 20 minutes, but Bouwhuis would shut the door to pick up her third win of the season.
Final shots finished 35-30 in favour of the Warriors.
Tori Campbell (Saskatoon, Sask.) started in goal for UOIT and made 32 saves. Campbell has a 2.61 goals against average and .903 save percentage in six starts.
UOIT's struggles on the power play continued as they went 0-for-3. UOIT has not scored a power play goal in 71 attempts this season.
The Ridgebacks will look to rest up during a 12-day break before their next game, which is set for Saturday, Nov. 13 at home against the Queen's Gaels.
