OSHAWA, Ont. – UOIT completed a six-point weekend on Sunday night with a 2-0 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues.
This marks UOIT's fifth straight shutout victory as they leapfrog the Varsity Blues for second place in the OUA eastern conference standings. The Ridgebacks (7-2-0) are just three points back of the first place Ottawa Gee-Gees (7-0-3) with a game in hand.
UOIT's defence managed to chip in offensively as
Kylie Bordeleau (Cambridge, Ont.) scored the game's opening goal in the 12
th minute.
Jessica Mithrush (Thunder Bay, Ont.) tapped over a free kick to Bordeleau who blasted the ball around the wall and into the top corner for her first goal of the year.
Shynice Williams (Mississauga, Ont.) would score her second goal of the weekend as halftime approached to give UOIT a 2-0 lead. Williams has six goals this season and is third in eastern conference scoring.
With Toronto failing to score,
Helen Frampton (Toronto, Ont.) extended her shutout streak to 534 minutes as she stopped all five shots on target. UOIT has allowed a league low three goals against in nine games this year.
The Ridgebacks will travel up north next weekend as they play the Nipissing Lakers (Oct. 10) and Laurentian Voyageurs (Oct. 11). Laurentian upset UOIT 2-0 during OUA opening weekend.
