NORTH BAY, Ont. – The UOIT women's soccer team extended their shutout streak to six games on Saturday with a 0-0 draw against the Nipissing Lakers.
The Ridgebacks could not find the scoring magic as they did in their OUA season opener where they defeated Nipissing 6-0. UOIT fired eight shots on target but Nipissing starting keeper Carlee Bennard stopped them all. This was Bennard's second shutout of the season as she returned to action after missing two games.
On the opposite end of the field, UOIT freshman
Helen Frampton (Toronto, Ont.) stopped all five Nipissing shots on target. Frampton has not allowed a single goal dating back to Sept. 13 in the sixth minute against the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
UOIT's defence has shutdown their opponents this season as they have allowed a league-low three goals against.
Tyra Gordon (Ajax, Ont.) and
Nicole Zajac (Mississauga, Ont.) each had two shots on target for UOIT.
UOIT (7-2-1) sits five points behind the Gee-Gees (8-0-3) with a game in hand for top spot in the conference standings. Queen's (5-2-5) is in third with 20 points but the Ridgebacks have two games in hand on the Gaels.
The Ridgebacks will finish off their weekend road swing with a match against Laurentian (5-3-2) on Sunday. Laurentian topped UOIT 2-0 in their previous meeting.
