GUELPH, Ont. – Three first period goals put the Ridgebacks behind the eight ball as they were shutout 5-0 Saturday afternoon in Guelph.
 
The Ridgebacks fired 19 shots on net but Valerie Lamenta turned them all aside as she earned her third shutout of the season. Guelph's defence has been exceptional early in the year allowing only six goals against in seven games.
 
UOIT's power play continued to struggle as they went 0-for-3 against Guelph. UOIT has failed to score a power play goal in 68 attempts this season.
 
Oshawa's Jessica Pinkerton and fifth year senior continued to be a thorn in UOIT's side as she scored the opening goal just three minutes into the contest, which turned out to be the eventual game winner.
 
The Gryphons offence was spread out with five different players scorings goals. Averi Nooren and Brittany St. James each had multi-point games with a goal and an assist.
 
Tori Campbell (Saskatoon, Sask.) was in net for all five goals, as she stopped 26 of 31 Guelph shots.
 
This marks the first time that UOIT has been shutout since their 2014-15 season finale against the national champion Western Mustangs.
 
UOIT drops to eighth place in the conference standings with a record of 3-4-0.  They are tied with Brock and Laurentian with eight points apiece.
 
The Ridgebacks will be back in action on Sunday as they take on Waterloo Warriors at the Columbia Ice Field. Game time is at 2:30 p.m.
