OSHAWA, Ont. – Saturday's OUA men's soccer match between UOIT and Ryerson was very similar to their first meeting in Toronto this past September.
In both contests, the team's headed into halftime level at 1-1 followed by Ryerson's offence waking up and exploding for four goals in the second half. Saturday's final score ended up 5-1 in favour of Ryerson.
The no. 4 ranked Rams sit atop of the OUA eastern conference standings with a 7-1-2 record. UOIT (4-4-1) is tied with Nipissing (3-2-4) for fifth place, six points ahead of Laurentian (2-6-1) who are on the outside of the playoff picture.
The lone bright spot for UOIT was that
Fabio Campoli (Woodbridge, Ont.) scored his first goal as a Ridgeback. Campoli, who has been setting up his teammates at will all season long, was able to beat the Rams goalkeeper in the 19th minute.
Ryerson's scoring came from a number of sources as five different players registered goals. Adam Hemati scored the game-winning goal in the 52nd minute.
UOIT will try and shake off the loss as they turn their attention to the second place Toronto Varsity Blues (7-2-1). The teams square off on Sunday at the Oshawa Civic with kick-off taking place at 8:30 p.m.
