OUA Men's Soccer PlayoffsUOIT @ Queen's – Wednesday, Oct. 28 – 3 p.m. OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT men's soccer team is heading back to the playoffs.
While sitting idle on Sunday, the team learned that they are heading to Kingston for the opening round of the playoffs to take on the Queen's Gaels on Wednesday, Oct. 28. Kick-off at Miklas McCareny field is set for 3 p.m.
The Ridgebacks backed their way into the playoffs having only picked up one point in their last four games. One of the losses came against Queen's on Oct. 16, as the Gaels earned a 1-0 victory at Civic Fields. Their previous meeting was also a 1-0 decision in favour of Queen's that came during their season-high five-game win streak.
Last year, the sixth seeded Ridgebacks knocked off the third place Carleton Ravens in penalty kicks to advance to the OUA quarter-finals. If the Ridgebacks want any chance of pulling off an upset again, their offence is going to need to turn things around. UOIT is averaging just over a goal per game during conference play and were shut out on four occasions.
UOIT (5-9-2) finished in sixth place in the eastern conference, two points ahead of the Laurentian (4-9-3) Voyageurs for the final playoff position. Laurentian tied Queen's on Sunday afternoon.
This will be the first postseason match-up between the two programs.
The Ridgebacks closed out regular season play on Saturday against the Carleton Ravens. Despite
George Meditskos scoring his second goal in three games, the Ridgebacks dropped a 2-1 decision.
