TORONTO – If the UOIT men's soccer team wants to make a run in the playoffs like they did one year ago, they are going to have to break out of their current slump.
With a 2-1 loss to Toronto on Wednesday night, UOIT has failed to pick up a victory in six of their last seven games.
UOIT fell behind quickly against the Varsity Blues as Jack Wadden scored in just the 4th minute. Shortly after, Russell Rodrigues would put Toronto in front by two goals as he registered his second goal of the season.
In the second half, UOIT's
Fabio Campoli (Woodbridge, Ont.) scored his second goal in as many games coming off a free kick in the 66th minute.
The Ridgebacks would have five more attempts on goal but could not beat goalkeeper Rab Bruce-Lockhart a second time as the Varsity Blues secured the victory.
UOIT remains in sixth place with a 5-8-2 record, six points ahead of the idle Laurentian Voyageurs (3-9-2). Fifth place is within reach as Nipissing (4-4-6) is just one point ahead.
The final game of the season for UOIT comes against Carleton (6-2-6) on Saturday afternoon in Scarborough.
