SUDBURY, Ont. – After 632 minutes UOIT freshman
Helen Frampton's shutout streak came to an end after Laurentian scored just eight minutes into their game on Sunday. The goal also broke up another one of UOIT's runs as it proved to be the game winner, ending the Ridgebacks' six-game unbeaten streak.
Brianne Rodrigue scored Laurentian's goal off a header giving the Voyageurs the season sweep over the Ridgebacks.
UOIT had a number of chances to score with 11 shots recorded, but only four of them managed to end up on target. Goalkeeper Richele Greenwood stopped everything she faced for her second shutout victory over UOIT. This was her third cleansheet of the season.
Sara Voisin (Waterloo, Ont.) had a team-high four shots for UOIT.
With the win, Laurentian (7-3-2) moves one point ahead of the Ridgebacks (7-3-1) for second place in the OUA eastern conference standings, with UOIT having one game in hand. Carleton, Queen's, Toronto and Nipissing are close behind as just four points separate all of the teams.
UOIT will be back in action at home on Friday night when they host the Queen's Gaels. Game time is 6 p.m.
