TORONTO – The UOIT women's hockey team's offensive struggles carried over into 2015 as the Ridgebacks suffered a 3-1 loss to the Ryerson Rams in Toronto Thursday night.
Dating back to Nov. 9th, the Ridgebacks have been in a tailspin dropping seven straight decisions in which they have not scored more than one goal. The losing skid has put UOIT in 11
th place in the OUA standings with a 5-9-1 record, four points out of a playoff position.
After a scoreless first period, UOIT was the first team who would light the lamp in the second period as
Mariah Wilson (Cobourg, Ont.) notched her fourth goal of the season. Veteran forward
Jennifer Sisson (Ajax, Ont.) recorded an assist on the play, marking her first point of the season.
UOIT's goal seemed to wake up Ryerson, as Alyssa Connolly and Justine Glover scored back-to-back goals, turning the tables on UOIT and giving the Rams their first lead of the game.
In the third period, Ryerson would continue to apply a lot of offensive pressure as they outshot UOIT 11-5. Their hard word would pay off as Kayla Karbonik scored to give Ryerson a two-goal advantage and secure the victory.
Ryerson goaltender Alex Armstrong would allow only one Ridgeback goal as she stopped 26 shots.
Tori Campbell (Saskatoon, Sask.) was in net for the loss, making 33 saves off of 36 Ryerson shots.
UOIT will not have much time to dwell on Thursday's loss as they head back to Toronto on Friday for an evening affair with the Varsity Blues. Toronto is 8-3-2 this season and defeated UOIT 4-3 in a shootout in October.
