OUA Men's Hockey
Queen's defeats UOIT 6-4

KINGSTON, Ont. – Darcy Greenaway netted a hat-trick as the Queen's men's hockey team scored four unanswered goals to defeat the UOIT Ridgebacks 6-4 Tuesday night at the Memorial Centre in Kingston.

The Gaels opened the scoring in the initial five minutes of the first frame as Andrew Wiebe netted his eighth of the season tipping in a point shot from Spencer Abraham. Queen's added another to end the period as Greenaway deflected in his first of three on the night.

The Ridgebacks would respond with four unanswered goals in the middle period to erase the Gaels lead and slow their momentum.

James Woodcroft (Milton, Ont.) was first to get on the board for UOIT with a power play marker 3:06 into the second.

Just over four minutes later Jordan Ramsay (Pickering, Ont.) scored unassisted to tie the game 2-2. Jesse Stoughton (Bobcaygeon, Ont.) netted the third Ridgebacks goal of the night at the 8:54 mark to give UOIT their first lead of the night.

Alex Derlis (Campbellcroft, Ont.) capped off the offensive period with 9:15 remaining in the frame, giving UOIT four goals in 10:45 of the second.

Gaels goaltender Chris Clarke relived starter Kevin Bailie after the fourth UOIT goal. Queen's captain Corey Bureau added a power play tally in the final five minutes of the period to cut the deficit to one heading into the third frame.

The Gaels completed the comeback as Ryan Bloom and Greenaway combined for three goals in three minutes in the final period to give Queen's the 6-4 victory.

Final shots for the night totalled 42-36 in favour of UOIT. Goaltender Bailie, who had started in net for the Gaels before being pulled near the midpoint of the game, surrendered four goals on 25 shots. Clarke earned the victory after turning aside all 17 shots faced in relief. UOIT's Brendan O'Neill was charged with the 30 save loss.
