Nationally ranked Ridgebacks remain undefeated OUA Women's Soccer: UOIT tied Queen's 1-1 OSHAWA, Ont. – The No. 5 ranked UOIT women's soccer team kept their undefeated record intact with a 1-1 draw against the Queen's Gaels on Saturday afternoon at Vaso's Field.
With the tie, UOIT is 6-0-2 on the season while Queen's improves to 4-2-2. The Ridgebacks trail Ottawa (8-1-0) by four points for top spot in the OUA eastern conference standings, but have a game in hand on the Gee-Gees. After Saturday's games, UOIT is one of seven teams across the country with an undefeated record.
Queen's would be the first to get on the board on Saturday when Jessie de Boer scored her first goal of the season, as she was fed by Brittany Almeida in the 19
th minute. Five minutes later, UOIT would strike back as
Cassandra Sribny (Pickering, Ont.) scored the equalizer, beating Queen's goalkeeper Madison Tyrell for her fourth of the season.
Although the intensity picked up in the second half with the teams combining for 14 shots, neither side would find a way to get the go-ahead goal as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
UOIT outshoot Queen's 14-8, with Sribny accounting for four of the Ridgebacks' shots.
Melissa Linton (Cobourg, Ont.) and Tyrell each made four saves in goal.
The Ridgebacks will look to make some ground up on Ottawa on Sunday when they head to Kingston to take on RMC. In their last meeting, UOIT blew out the Paladins 8-0. RMC is winless this year with a 0-8-1 record.
