OUA Women's Soccer: UOIT defeated RMC 4-0 KINGSTON, Ont. – The No. 5 ranked UOIT women's soccer team earned their fourth shutout of the season as they blanked the RMC Paladins 4-0 in Kingston on Sunday.
The Ridgebacks remain undefeated with a 7-0-2 record, but trail Ottawa (9-1-0), who won their ninth straight game, by four points. UOIT is the only team to beat Ottawa this season, as they edged the Gee-Gees 3-2 in their season opener.
With the win, UOIT is the lone OUA school without a loss. After Sunday's slate of action, there are now only four other schools across the country with undefeated records including UNB, Acadia, Victoria and Trinity Western.
Freshmen did all of the scoring for the Ridgebacks against RMC with
Rachel Matthews (Ajax, Ont.) registering two goals and
Jordan Thornton (Ajax, Ont.) with the other. UOIT's other marker was an own goal by the Paladins.
With an 8-0 result in their first meeting against RMC, UOIT picked up right where they left off as Matthews scored just three minutes into the contest. The Ridgebacks would add two more goals over the next 25 minutes and another insurance marker in the second half to run away with the contest.
UOIT fired 15 shots on target, compared to just one by the Paladins.
Melissa Linton (Cobourg, Ont.) would stop RMC's lone shot for her fourth cleansheet of the year.
The Ridgebacks will now host the Toronto Varsity Blues (5-2-1) on Wednesday, October 1. Game time at Vaso's Field is 7:30 p.m.
