OUA Women's Hockey: Guelph defeated UOIT 4-1 GUELPH, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team had their win streak end in a building that has always haunted them.
UOIT fell 4-1 to No. 8 ranked Guelph, as the Gryphons scored two late third period goals to end a Ridgeback comeback attempt.
The Ridgebacks last win at the Gryphon Centre came back on Oct. 8, 2011. Since that win, UOIT has dropped four straight decisions including their first-ever playoff game.
Sunday afternoon's game was closer than the scoreline would indicate, as UOIT trailed 2-1 in the third period and were outshooting Guelph 6-0 in the final 20 minutes. Jessica Pinkerton of Oshawa and Averi Nooren would score on Guelph's two lone shots in the final three minutes of the game including an empty netter, as the Gryphons remained perfect on home ice.
The loss puts an end to UOIT's three-game win streak and five-game point streak.
Three streaks that did continue for UOIT were the point streaks of freshmen
Chelsea Ball (Maple, Ont.),
Kassidy Nauboris (Brampton, Ont.) and
Nicole Gorda (Edmonton, Alta.), as they connected to score UOIT's only goal. Gorda has registered at least one point in the last five games while Ball and Nauboris have had at least one in their last four games. The trio have combined for 18 points (seven goals & 11 assists) in their last five games.
Tori Campbell (Saskatoon, Sask.) made 18 saves in goal for UOIT while Oshawa native Stephanie Nehring had 16 for the Gryphons.
UOIT is 3-1-0 after four games of their seven-game road trip and will head to Kingston on Saturday for an evening affair against the No. 4 ranked Queen's Gaels (6-1-2).
