OUA Women's Hockey: Queen's defeated UOIT 6-1 KINGSTON, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team was outmatched on Saturday night as the No. 5 ranked Queen's Gaels skated to a 6-1 victory over the Ridgebacks.
The Gaels improve to 7-1-2 on the year while UOIT falls to 5-4-1. The Ridgebacks are 3-2-0 with two games remaining on their seven-game road trip.
UOIT was dominated on both ends of the ice as they were outshot 36-10. Queen's would strike early and often as they put six goals on the board, matching their highest offensive output of the season.
Clare McKellar, Jessica Wakefield, Fiona Lester and Shawn Griffin would record three points apiece in the lopsided victory. Taryn Pilon, who is second in OUA scoring, had two assists in the win.
Chelsea Ball (Brampton, Ont.) would score the Ridgebacks lone goal for the second straight game, as she extended her point streak to six games. Ball has five goals and three assists in 10 games this season.
The Ridgebacks are sitting in fifth place in the conference standings, with only two points separating them with the ninth place Toronto Varsity Blues. UOIT will take on Waterloo and Laurier next weekend, two teams that are chasing them in the standings.
