OUA Men's Hockey: Queen's defeated UOIT 2-1 OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT men's hockey team suffered their first loss of the season in regulation time on Thursday night as they fell 2-1 to the Queen's Gaels at the Campus Ice Centre.
Thursday's victory was Queen's first win of the year, as they improve to 1-1-0. UOIT falls to 2-1-1 and will need to recover quickly as they head to Ottawa on Friday for a game against the Carleton Ravens (2-2-0).
After Queen's jumped out a 1-0 lead 1:10 into the first period, both team's offences cooled down as they went scoreless for almost 40 minutes. Corey Bureau recorded his first goal of the season on the Gaels' opener, with assists going to Andrew Wiebe & Warren Steele.
Less than a minute into the third period, Queen's would add to their lead as Eric Ming slipped one past UOIT goaltender
Brendan O'Neill (Ilderton, Ont.) on the power play. Steele recorded his second assist of the night with Spencer Abraham also recording a helper.
Five minutes later, a couple of Ridgeback freshmen got UOIT on the board as
Adam Campagnolo (Waterloo, Ont.) registered his first career OUA goal with
Connor Jarvis (Port Union, Ont.) recording the assist, his first point in the OUA.
Despite a number of scoring chances down the stretch and a late power play opportunity, UOIT could not find a way to beat Queen's goaltender Kevin Ballie for a second time.
Shots finished up fairly even with UOIT holding a slight 32-31 advantage. UOIT was 0-for-3 with the man-advantage while Queen's went 1-for-6.
