OUA Men's Hockey: Carleton defeated UOIT 9-4 OTTAWA – The UOIT men's hockey team allowed six consecutive second period goals in a 9-4 road loss to the Carleton Ravens on Friday night.
The Ridgebacks had a quick turnaround after their 2-1 loss to Queen's 24 hours earlier in Oshawa, as they hopped on the bus for the evening affair with the Ravens. After skating to a 2-2 draw after 20 minutes, the Ridgebacks fatigue finally showed as Carleton scored six goals over a seven-minute span to take a commanding 8-2 lead. UOIT would come back with two goals of their own, but Carleton added another to pick up the five-goal victory.
The Ravens' scoring attack was well balanced with eight different players lighting the lamp. Mitch Zion was the only Carleton player with more than one goal, as she had two on the night. Corey Durocher and Michael McNamee did a good job of distributing the puck as they ended up with three assists apiece.
Colt Kennedy (Pickering, Ont.) would score half of the UOIT goals, recording his second and third of the year. The Ridgebacks other two goals were both shorthanded, with
Jesse Stoughton (Bobcaygeon, Ont.) and
Cameron Yuill (Belleville, Ont.) getting on the score sheet. Stoughton finished the night with three points, recording the shorthanded goal and two assists.
Making his fifth straight start of the season, UOIT goaltender
Brendan O'Neill (Ilderton, Ont.) let in seven Carleton goals, before making way for back-up netminder
Jesse Raymond (Woodstock, Ont.). Coming into the game in relief, Raymond allowed two Carleton goals off of 14 shots.
Carleton saw a lot of time with the man-advantage, as they would capitalize on one of eight power play opportunities. UOIT recorded two power play goals to add to the pair of shorthanded markers. Carleton outshot UOIT 40-30.
The Ridgebacks are 2-2-1 to start the year and are in the middle of the pack of the OUA eastern conference standings. Carleton (3-2-0) jumps ahead of the Ridgebacks with six points in five games.
Up next for UOIT is a home affair with the Western Mustangs on Friday, October 24. Puck drop at the Campus Ice Centre is at 7:30 p.m.
