OUA Women's Soccer: UOIT defeated Laurentian 4-0
 
OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT women's soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to 12 games with a 4-0 shutout over the Laurentian Voyageurs at the Oshawa Civic on Saturday afternoon.
 
This marks the fourth straight shutout for UOIT goalkeeper Melissa Linton (Cobourg, Ont.), as the Ridgebacks improve to 10-0-2 on the year. The No. 6 ranked Ridgebacks are now one of only three teams in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) without a loss this season.
 
The Ridgebacks would score three first half goals and they cruised to their 10^th win of the year. Cassandra Sribny (Pickering, Ont.), Jessica Mithrush (Thunder Bay, Ont.) and Shynice Williams (Mississauga, Ont.) all had first half strikes, as UOIT outshot Laurentian 9-4 in the opening 45 minutes. With her goal just before halftime, Williams extended her scoring streak to three games.
 
In the second half, UOIT added another insurance marker as Rachel Matthews (Ajax, Ont.) scored in the 67^th minute to cap off the four-goal victory.
 
With four games remaining in the regular season, UOIT is five points ahead of the Queen's Gaels (8-2-3) with a game in hand for second place in the standings. The Ridgebacks are chasing Ottawa (12-1-0) for first place in the OUA eastern conference, who they will meet up with in the nation's capital next weekend. UOIT handed Ottawa their only loss of the season in the opening game of the year.
 
Up next for UOIT is a match against the Nipissing Lakers (4-8-1) on Sunday afternoon at the Civic. Kick-off for the Ridgebacks regular season finale is at noon.
