OUA Women's Soccer: UOIT defeated Windsor 5-0

WINDSOR, Ont. – The UOIT women's soccer team broke out of an offensive slump in a big way on Sunday afternoon as they defeated the Windsor Lancers 5-0 for their first win of the season.

Freshman Cassandra Sribny (Pickering, Ont.) recorded a hat-trick in the win, as she scored the first three goals of her career. This is the first time in UOIT women's soccer history that a player has recorded a hat-trick.

Sierra Bulger (Oshawa, Ont.) also chipped in on the offensive end scoring two goals, including the game-winner eight minutes into the game. Bulger was the Ridgebacks leading scorer last year with five goals in 14 games.

In their first three games of the regular season, UOIT had failed to score a goal despite having a number of great opportunities. Sunday's performance was a total 180 for the Ridgebacks as they scored four first half goals and cruised to the five goal victory.

Laura Whelan (St. John's, N.F.) made four saves for the cleansheet, which was her first shutout and win.

Windsor came into Sunday's game with a lot of confidence as they defeated the nationally ranked Laurier Golden Hawks by a score of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. Windsor falls to 2-2-0 on the year with the loss.

UOIT improves to 1-2-1 after splitting their weekend series with Western and Windsor. The Ridgebacks will be back in action on Friday, September 13 at home against the Waterloo Warriors. Kick-off is at 6 p.m.
