Western holds on for a win over UOIT
OUA Women's Soccer: Western defeated UOIT 2-1
OSHAWA, Ont. – Coming off a last-second victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks, the UOIT women's soccer team was unable to come up with another magical performance on Sunday as the No. 8 ranked Western Mustangs walked off with a 2-1 win over the Ridgebacks.
After Western took a 2-0 lead in the second half, UOIT finally picked up their tempo and applied some offensive pressure. Their hard work would pay off as
Cassandra Sribny (Pickering, Ont.) scored her fourth goal of the year during the 71st minute to cut the lead in half.
Despite applying a lot of pressure over the final 20 minutes, UOIT was unable to strike again as Western earned three points with the one-goal victory.
Western goal scorers included Jess Friend during the 33rd minute and Amanda Boyle scoring the game winner during the 61st minute.
Tori Edgar made seven saves in the win, which was her fifth of the season.
Laura Whelan (St. John's, N.F.) had three saves for the Ridgebacks.
UOIT's last five games have ended in a score of 2-1, with the Ridgebacks sporting a 2-3-0 record over that span.
Western remains undefeated on the year with a 5-0-4 record while the Ridgebacks fall to 3-5-2. UOIT sits in seventh place in the OUA western conference, three points behind York, Windsor and McMaster who all have 14.
